What Causes Dark Coloured Urine And Pain In The Neck?

I have had dark urine MOST OF THE PAST 1 1/2 YEARS. I have had to stay in bed this entire time, as lost ability to stand, or walk. I have to have everything done for me but at least I ve got some mobility back in my hands & can sit up in bed more now, too. I ve never found out what happened to me but feel I may have had a mild stroke. it just so happened that there was a bacterial meningitis out-break at the university about 5 miles from where I live & I do have terrible pain in my neck, along with the paralysis, & balance problems Also, I have an advanced case of charcot-marie-tooth disease which I inherited from my father. I am 71 now & have been losing my teeth (for no reason I can figure). ANY THOUGHTS?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Dark-colored urine is usually suggestive of urinary concentration due to less fluid intake or can be Jaundice. Urine analysis helps to get the cause and get treated accordingly.
You are a known patient of Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease (CMT) which can cause all the said symptoms and treatment will be under the guidance of a Neurologist.
Since there was an outbreak of bacterial meningitis nearby and you developed a symptom of neurological manifestation, admission to the hospital is advisable for the following reasons.
To get the tests of blood, urine and stool.
MRI of brain.
Lumbar puncture for getting CSF that is cerebrospinal fluid for analysis, culture and sensitivity.
The treatment will be intravenous antibiotics active against such infection, proper nursing care and so on.
Neck pain is known to occur and is diagnostic of meningitis in the form of the stiff neck also called as neck-rigidity
Also needed is proper physiotherapy under the guidance of a Physiotherapist.
Losing teeth for no obvious reason is suggestive of cancer in the area and should be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
