What Causes Dark Fibrous Discharge After Periods?

I started birth control around 4 months ago, and have missed several days through out that time. My periods have been abnormal and in the last month I had bad cramping in the middle of my cycle and started bleeding. That lasted about a week and since then I have been having dark brown fiberous discarge. Could this possibly be a miscarrage?
