What Causes Dark Skin Discoloration, Swelling And Pain In Leg After Injury?

A chair fell on my leg just above the ankle. It's black underneath skin with a small tear and very little bleeding. But very swollen and very painful. I must go on a long haul day after tomorrow . Will this be possible? I can stand and walk on it. Will I be at a greater risk of getting Blood clots on the flight if I go??

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that due to injury there has been hematoma formation and bruising due to rupture of blood vessels and it is only leading to dark discolouration of the injured site as well as pain and swelling is due to inflammation at the injured site and accumulation of damaged tissue, ruptured blood vessels and inflammatory cells and exudate..
Nothing to worry, you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen or if pain is severe Tramadol can be taken..
As there is also skin rupture due to injury a short course of antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin can be taken.
You can apply a numbing gel at the injured site for pain relief..
Do cold compresses..
You can also apply heparin ointment for faster reduction of discolouration..
Elevate your leg while lying down..
As you had a tear also it will be better to take Tetanus Toxoid injection also..
