Male friend, age 77, has black scabby sores on both lower legs. Has seen several drs. who have ordered ultrasound (2) and one MRI. No diagnosis yet. MRI was ordered to determine whether blood is returning waste. Any ideas? No, he is not diabetic.
I understand your concern for dark sores on legs. There can be multiple possibilities of the dark sores on legs.
In my experience these kind of sores generally appears in stasis dermatitis. The history provided by you is insufficient to guide you best, so I request you to kindly elaborate the concern as exactly how many years your friend has dark sores. Are these present on both the legs, any red areas on the affected portion, any previous history of ulceration or infection.
In my patients would have preferred to go skin biopsy of the area and culture with sensitivity of the raw area to know the exact pathology behind the dark sores. Just check if your friend is itching his sores on higher side. For itching I prefer to give an antihistamine such as cetrizine or levocetrizine or loratadine for two times a day for few days.
All the best.
