Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 64 year old wife was just out driving and experienced an awareness of her heart (she occasionally has fish flops ) and her vision began to darken and narrow. She felt close to passing out but managed to drive to her mother s house. She says she may have a slight headache in the back of her head. This has not happened to her before. The only medication she is on is synthroid. Any ideas/suggestions? Thank you.
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and after reviewing your case history I'm of the following opinion:
1. At her age [64], common causes to exclude is/are high blood pressure, low blood sugar, spondylitis, TIA [transient ischemic attack], any eye disease [cataract, glaucoma or macular degeneration], ocular migraine??PS. It is wise to consult initially your PCP who later can refer you to a concerned specialist if anything abnormal is found on systemic examination of that particular human anatomy.
2. You may check with a Neurologist for complete nervous system examination and if any neurological sign as the weakness of cranial nerves or limbs is observed he may ask for C.T. scan.
Ps. a headache related to hypothyroidism [since she is on synthyroid] usually feels more like a tension headache than a migraine, nevertheless check with her Thyroid Function Test.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
