What Causes Decreased Heart Rate While Suffering From Sleep Apnea?

my son in law was diagnosed with kidney cancer, he had his kidney removed in june and left the hospital with a pacemaker because his heart rate kept dropping and stopping all the time. He went to the dr and had a colonoscopy and has precancerous polyps. He is now has a machine for sleep apnea and the machine shows his heart rate going below 40 and that is not supposed to happen since he got a pacemaker. What really is going on?

Hi,

Yes, you are right. If the pacemaker is placed then his heart rate should not be decreased. Since his heart rate is dropping, it is suggestive of improper functioning of the pacemaker.

This is a very common technical error with pacemakers. So better to take him to a cardiologist and recheck his pacemaker.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
