What Causes Decreased White Blood Cell Count After Taking Arimidex?

I have been having my white blood cell count go down and it looks like it started when I began taking arimidex. Is it a possible side effect of the medication? Also, I only have one more year to complete arimidex recommended dosage. If it is the cause, will it go back up when I stop taking it?

Hello,

Arimidex is Anastrozole and it can cause lowered white blood cell counts as infrequent side effect. But the count doesn't fall too low. After stopping the drug, counts will be replenished. So you don't need to worry.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
