What Causes Dehydration And Weight Loss In An Elderly Person?

My dad, age 86, has experienced weight loss and dehydration continually since December. Colonoscopy was fine. He has had an endoscopy which doesn t show a problem. Only issue found is kidneys working at 17% below normal on left and 7% below on right. Any thoughts as to what might be causing the dehydration and weight loss? 20 lbs since Christmas.

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, better to confirm the dehydration and for this it is advisable to get done the serum electrolyte test if the oral intake of water is less then this may also cause the dehydration, so keep giving him drinking water, hope this helps, take care and have a nice day.
