Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Delay In Menstrual Bleeding While On Systane?
I had my lasik surgery three weeks back. And I ve been using Systane since the next day of my surgery. I used Genteal, Zymaxid and FML for two weeks. My periods were always regular and suddenly this month I missed my period. Do these drops usually effect menstrual cycle???
Sustane is a lubricant eye drop and it works only locally in the eye. If there is any possible side effect, it is related to eyes and it should not affect the menstrual periods.
I would advise you to have a pregnancy test first as pregnancy is the first diagnosis to rule out when periods are delayed.
If you are not pregnant then the delay may be due to the stress your body went through recently (the surgery). It is common that when we have a stress time (physical or emotional) the periods may get delayed.
In this case, you should have your periods within the next couple of weeks. If you do not get the periods within the next 2-3 weeks you will need to talk to your doctor.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
