What Causes Delay In Period After Taking Birth Control Pills?

I recently started taking birth control (4 months ago) and everything has been great. My menstrual cycle comes on time every month, and is usually a normal cycle. This month, my period came a day later than usual (which I know is no big deal) but I have yet to bleed. I am only 3 days into it, which is usually when I would have started regularly bleeding, but there is only dark (almost black) kind of dry blood that just flakes. It s really thick and abnormal for me, could it just be the hormones in the bc?

Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

The blackish dry vaginal fluid that you describing is likely to be dry blood as you rightly thought.

I am not sure from your question on the type of birth control that you are on. Is it the combined pill which has both the oestrogen and progesterone hormone, and taken for 21 days. The period that you see whilst you are on the pill is actually not a true period. It is actually a with drawl bleed that occurs when you stop taking the pill after 21 days. The with drawl bleed may be different to a woman’s usual menstrual period. It would be lighter than her normal period. May be you may start bleeding within the next 2-3 days.

If you are on a progesterone only pill, and which you take it every day without break, then it is very likely that the scanty bleeding you are having is because of this pill. Lots of women on progesterone only pills either have very scant bleeding or completely stop seeing their periods.

You can see what your next period is like and if still worried can see a doctor.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
Regards
