What Causes Delay In Periods After Taking Emergency Contraceptive?

Hi Doctor, I got my last period in the month of May, i.e., on 30th May, 2014, and before that on 5th May, 2014. For the month of April, on 8th April, 2014. My periods last about 5 days. I haven t got my periods for over a month now. I did, however, have protected sex with my boyfriend on 18th June, 2014 and again on 1st July, 2014. I consumed an emergency contraceptive pill on 3rd July, 2014. Am I at a risk of being pregnant ?

Hello,

Slight irregularities can happen with emergency pills. You can go for a urine pregnancy test to check whether you are pregnant or not.

Once the pregnancy is ruled out you can wait a few more days for spontaneous bleeding.

If still delayed, you can consult a gynaecologist and start on progestins to induce bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
