What Causes Delay In Periods And Brown Vaginal Discharge?

I am 8 days late for my menstrual cycle. I have never been late. I always have a 34 day cycle and I can peg the day like clockwork. This morning I woke up and had a light brown discharge when wiping. It has come and gone all day. What could this mean?
