Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Delay In Periods Despite Having Safe Sex?
My period is late. I am usually 36-39 day cycle. Last menstrual period is Oct 12. Had unprotected sex on Day 8 after period stopped. He didn t cum inside me. On the 10th day had sex again but with condom. Supposed to have my period on Nov 17-20. But until now it hasn t come. I only had white lotion-like discharge that come and go these past few days. What are the chances that I am pregnant?
Having a 36 to 39 days cycle is abnormal. Also, during such circumstances, it is difficult to predict when ovulation could take place. Hence, having unprotected intercourse is always a risk. However, it appears from your description that the delay in getting periods could be due to hormonal imbalance. But, pregnancy needs to be ruled out.
Kindly take a urine pregnancy test and a transvaginal ultrasound scan. If pregnancy is not the cause for delay in periods, then you would need to be evaluated for FSH and LH hormone levels in blood.
Kindly consult Obstetrician with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
