What Causes Delay In Periods Despite Taking Depo Shot?
Hello, I have a question about the depo? I got my first shot on January 15. I always get my period every 27 of the month. Now its February 3, my period is late. Am I pregnant? or should i take a pregnancy test? Thing is the nurse didn t tell me to wait two weeks unti i called and asked her.
Menstrual cycles are regulated by hormones which follow a cyclical rhythm that develops follicles, releases the egg within, waits for a possible conception and if there isn't any, leads shedding the lining resulting in a period.
The depo shot is a hormonal shot which interferes with this cycle and prevents the normal flow of events.(prevents ovulation) This may lead to irregular or cessation of periods for as long as the hormone has effects. If you take this shot every 12 weeks regularly, chances of pregnancy are minimal (less that 1%). From your query, I understand, that you are concerned about a possible conception before you had the shot? Taking a pregnancy test two weeks after your period is due will show if you are pregnant. Hope this helps. Please get back to should you need further clarification. Wish you good health
