What Causes Delay In Periods Inspite Of Taking Contraceptives?

Hi there, not sure if this is the right place or not for this, sorry if it s inappropriate. My girlfriend s regularly takes the pill birth control as when we have intercourse I will often finish inside of her. She never misses a day without them, always taking it around the same time(6-7pm) However recently she has missed her planned period by a few days and we are worried it perhaps could be pregancy as I don t think we re at a stage in our lives where it would be possible to raise a child(she s 21, I m 20). I ve heard from a few sources that often stress leads to missing your period, and she has been having a very stressful time with her university course, and part time teaching placement, is this an actual thing that happens?

Hi,

Stress can make your menstrual period making it shorter or longer or even causing a missed period due to changes in hormones level. However, most of the times, it should not be a fully missed period(more than 6weeks of your last period) due to stress. In your case, if it is more than 6 weeks of your last period, then you should go for a pregnancy test, as it may be failure of contraceptive pills.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
