I was supposed to get my period 2 weeks ago, and I got bronchitis 2 weeks ago. My period is still late, and my bronchitis is still here/on its way out. Could this be why my period is late? It is usually not 2 weeks off schedule. Also on the same note, my pregnancy test was negative but I have heard a lot about false negatives, is there anyway to induce a period, or to be 100% sure it is negative. Blood tests are just expensive and I dont want my parents to find out
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. After debilitating illness delayed menses are common... due to temporary hormonal fluctuation. pregnancy test can be false +ve due to contaminated urine sample or testing errors. BUT False -ve pregnancy test is very rare. - as it's a reaction of pregnancy hormone in urine with the the testing chemical..Some times too early testing ( before 3 weeks of conception/ 8 days delay in periods ).. gives -ve report which turns +ve afterword I would advise you to confirm no pregnancy by consulting a gynecologist. When there is no conception.. periods can be induced by hormonal pills .. again to taken with doctors advise after examining you Thanks.
