What Causes Delay In Periods?

I am 38 and I have had my tubes tied for about ten years now. My periods aren t always right on time but it is usually only off by a day or so. This time it has been about 13 days late. I decided to take a pregnancy test just to rule that out. It came up VERY negative. So what are the other things could be going on??? Thank you, Jen

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Jen,

I understand your concerns.

Having delayed periods might be due to many factors
- your age (pre-menstrual syndrome)
- infection : should get vaginal swab testing done
- stress

Advise to consult with OG specialist and get your hormones checked to rule out imbalances and to decide for the best treatment!
All the best!
