What Causes Delayed Heart Beat?

hello, I am been experiencing what seems like a delayed heartbeat the past few days. AFter the slight delay, the heart beats harder on the next beat. I have had this happen on occasion for years, but the past few days it has been happening frequently. I have just gotten over a virus. I am 61 years old.
