Hello,
I am sorry to hear about your condition. You should know that birth control pills can only work when taken regularly and at the same time while having unprotected sex.
It is usual that menstrual cycle can vary for plus or minus 5 days. not properly taking pills can also mess up with your cycle.
However, in cases like this, in my practice, I will advise my patient first to take a
pregnancy test and have a check-up as soon as you find out because as you mentioned, it is also accompanied by foul-smelling order and
vaginal discharge which may prompt immediate treatment.
Vaginal discharges may be normal however a change with this, as you mentioned is now foul smelling with thick discharge. This can be a sign of infection.
Most common cause of this is
bacterial vaginosis which can be linked to sexual intercourse. That is why using extra method of protection such as condoms are advised.
However, bacterial vaginosis is usually accompanied by yeast infection especially if the thick discharge resembles cheese-like consistency.
If this is the case, I usually give my patient 7 day treatment of
metronidazole + anti fungal like
fluconazole.
You may have to undergo a pelvic exam by your local gynecologist where your doctor might collect a sample of
cervical discharge to confirm what kind of
vaginitis you have since this platform is limited and i won't be able to do a complete physical examination.
In that case, proper treatment may be prescribed. For the meantime, you must practice proper vaginal hygiene by washing every day and wiping from front to back after urination.
You must also avoid douching to help keep bacteria balanced in the vagina. Keep your vagina dry and increase water intake.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Manuel C See IV, Urologist
