Hi! there are so many causes that I've experienced to cause delayed period following an abortion, in my clinic; these are:

1. alteration of normal ovarian estrogen due to exogenous drugs like mifepristone or misoprostol

2. alteration in the sensitivity of ovaries to FSH/LH due to the medication

3. insensitivity of the endometrium

4. destruction of normal glands if surgical method are implemented

5. minor infections

Hope you got the answer and please also remember that generally the next periods are very heavy but this problem is temporary only!

regards!
