Hello there, thanks for writing in. I would like to tell you that delayed periods are quite normal once in a while and happens due to delayed ovulation ( egg release). Your menstrual cycle has two phases, the first is before ovulation which is called follicular phase which is variable and depends on the time required for growth of egg and its release. The second is following ovulation which is also called luteal phase and is always constant and is about two weeks. The egg fertilised will get implanted during this time or if no pregnancy, the hormones come down to result in menses. So your ovulation must be delayed this month and hence delayed periods. Sometimes rarely the corpus luteum ( egg shell) persists beyond two weeks and keeps producing hormones and it takes time for it to resolve so that periods can set in. This can also result in delayed periods. I assure you it is nothing to worry about. And even if you have a different flow pattern, it will settle down on its own. Hope this bit of information helped you. Good luck!
