What Causes Delayed Periods After Splenectomy?

Hi, about 5 weeks ago i had an emergency splenectomy due to trauma, during my hospital stay i had a period but this month following my surgery am either late or i fear i wont have one and the intetnal bleeding may have interferred with my mensturation and made me infertile. Is this something to be concerned about or is it and irrational concern? Btw im only 18.

Hi,

You had splenectomy that is a lymphoid organ and leads to the destruction of RBCs. Now your concern is periods, that is nothing to do with your pregnancy or periods.

Yes, there are chances of stress-related hormonal imbalance that could be responsible for your irregular periods.

This assumption of yours is absolutely irrational that internal bleeding during the surgical procedure would have damaged your reproductive system.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
