What Causes Delayed Periods After Taking Postinor 2?

Hi,I had intercourse on 11 of February around 9-10pm and I took postinor-2 around 7-8pm the next night and still had another intercourse on Monday morning and I took another tablet.and my period have refused to come out and my breast have been heavy for some day those that mean am pregnant?

Hi,

The delayed period after intake of emergency pill such as Postinor 1500 mcg is a common problem. It is known side effect due to a high dose of hormone Levogesterol contained in the pill. So your periods could be delayed for one or two cycles. Pregnancy chance is very less after intake of an emergency pill.

Use condoms or regular contraceptive pills to prevent pregnancy in future. Intake of emergency contraceptive pills is not advised in you as you are suffering from polycystic ovaries. You should use combined hormone contraceptive pill by consulting your gynaecologist, it would make your periods regular and would also prevent pregnancy.

Frequent use of emergency pill like Postinor in you can cause serious problems like irregular periods, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and even infertility.

Refer to your gynaecologist.
