What Causes Delayed Periods After Treatment Of Sepsis?
Hi there, my last period was around dec 8th. On the 24th I ended up going to the ER and had a serious kidney infection and sepsis. They kept me in the hospital for 3 days, treating me with antiobiotics. Once I got out I took cipro 2 times daily for a week. Normally my period is around exactly the same time every month but I m now about 16 days late. When in the hospital they did do a pregnancy test that was negative at the time. Could the illness and or anitobiotics affect my period that much? Thanks for the advice !
Stress can affect the hormones in the body and can affect the periods. A severe infection might play this role even though it is not very common. If you had a negative pregnancy test I would repeat one in 3-4 days distance from the first one. If the second test is negative as well then very likely it is not due to pregnancy but due to the stress your body has been going through. If it lasts more then 3 months then investigations with blood tests need to be done to find the cause of the amenorrhea (lack of periods for at least 3 months)
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
