General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Delayed period can be due to different possible causes such as:
(1) emotional or physical stress or illness
(2) thyroid disease
(3) side effect of medication
(4) high levels of the prolactin hormone
(5) polycystic ovarian syndrome
(6) pregnancy but a pregnancy test would rule this out. It should be done 11 to 14 days after possible conception. If the pregnancy test is truly positive, you may need additional assessment if your period does not come. This would include blood tests and imaging.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
