What Causes Delayed Periods And Cramps?

Hi, i am currently 9 days late for my period I m normally pretty regular give or take 1 or 2 days. I ve been experiencing some light cramps which last about 20 seconds a time, I also have a white thick-ish discharge from my vagina. I have taken two home pregnancy tests both of which were negative. I took one when I was 1 day late and another the day after. Should I take a more sensitive one? Do you think I could be pregnant? By the way me and my partner have been ttc thanks a lot.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the thick discharge with delayed periods and cramps suggest possible bacterial infection most likely with secondary hormone imbalance. This does not sound to be pregnancy symptoms in usual cases as home pregnancy tests are negative also support the same. The primary guidelines for better recovery are:
- Drink more liquids
- Vaginal hygiene with antiseptic liquid or soap
Sitz bath with lukewarm water added epsom salt
- Avoid sex and tries to conceive at present till recovery and normalization of menses cycle
- Prescription antibiotic such as Metronidazole
- Anti-spasmodic medicine as Drotaverine hydrochloride or Dicyclomine
with mefenamic acid after meals if no history of drug sensitivity
- Hormone preparations as combined OC pills for a period of 3-5 days, the stoppage of which will give withdrawal bleeding

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
