What Causes Delayed Periods Post Intake Of Folic Acid Tablets?
Hi. I am 24 years old and married on October 2014. Start consume folic acid on January. after consume folic acid I have missed my period for 3 days(January) and 5 days for next month (February). I have regular period cycle before married. I want to know whether it is negative or positive effect.
Folic acid is important for women attempting to conceive because it helps with the growth of the baby's nervous system.
It would not cause a delay in periods and it would be best for you to continue it.
There are different causes for delayed periods such as:(a) side effect of hormonal medication (b)emotional stress or illness (c)high levels of the prolactin hormone (d)thyroid disease (e)polycystic ovarian syndrome (f)physical illness
If you continue to have problems then your doctor can assess you to determine if one of these is the cause.
This would require physical examination, possibly blood tests and imaging such as ultrasound.
I hope this helps
