What Causes Delayed Periods With Negative Pregnancy Test?

Hi Doc, my wife did not have her periods now over a month. A week before she did her pregnancy test in a hospital which had negative result..we still fear she may be pregnant or her periods are delayed..dont know exact reason, appreciate your advise thanks
