What Causes Delayed Periods With Spotting?

I am suppose to have my period this week. I experienced some brown blood in my underwear last night. Then this morning when I used the bathroom there was some red blood in the toliet and on the toliet paper. I am not sure if I am spotting or its a light period. I have been super stressed this last couple weeks. Can you please help me?
