What Causes Delayed Periods?

I usually start my period around the 9th of every month. This month I never started. I have taken several home tests at home and then had a blood test done at my local hospital and all came back negative. I have never been late on my period unless I have been pregnant. What is going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Delay in getting periods can happen due to other causes other than pregnancy. Kindly get a urine pregnancy test done to know whether you are pregnant or not. If it is negative, your delay in periods could be due to hormonal imbalance. However, you would need few more investigations like blood test and ultrasound scan to arrive at the diagnosis as to what could be the underlying cause.

Kindly consult obstetrician in this regard for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S
