What Causes Delayed Periods?

Hi, I am currently trying to get pregnant and i am on day 53 of my cycle and have not gotten my period. I have skipped a period once before for 2 weeks. But never this long. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests one the day i was suppose to get my period and the other 5 days after i missed.
