Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 44 years old. It seems to me that when I am ovulating, I am more depressed than usual, sleepy, and "just don't feel well". I haven't always experienced this. It just seems like only in the past year or so. Also, I am on an anti-depressant already.
You are 44 years old female and you have symptoms like low mood, sleepiness during the time of ovulation of your menstrual cycle. You don't feel good and have depressive symptoms more than usual. Depressive and anxiety symptoms enhanced more in relation to menstrual cycle especially during premenstrual (or ovulatory) phase, can occur due to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or in more severe cases due to Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Change in hormonal levels, changed serotonin in brain etc are postulated to be the cause behind the symptoms. A lot of females experience symptoms like Bloating, irritability, severe anxiety, hot flushes, depressive symptoms, crying spells in this disorder.
In most of females mild anti-anxiety drugs help in relieving the symptoms. If symptoms become more severe then there is need to consult a Psychiatrist. Medicines especially of SNRI class as Duloxetine are very useful in PMDD. Consult a Psychiatrist for detailed opinion.
Hope this helps you, thanks
