What Causes Dermatitis From Hibiclens And Itchy Groin After Hip Replacement Surgery?

I had hip replacement surgery 4 weeks ago and have a dermatitis from the hiblicens i used for 3 days prior to surgery. It is still extremely itchy, burning and scaly on my scrotum, groin area and the bottom of my spine. All of the areas that it touched while rinsing. I ve tried bacitracin and silvadene . Will this clear up on its own ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, it is the over application of Hibiclens or skin sensitivity to the same which has provoked severe itching, burning and scaly areas as mentioned above. Guidelines for better recovery:
- Keep the area clean with running tap water
- Local application of ointment with silver sulfadiazine
- Turmeric paste and aloe vera for Ayurvedic healing properties
- Avoid smoking if doing
- Control of blood sugar
- Antihistamine for severe itching

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
