What Causes Developing Itchy Skin Rash On Back Of Left Upper Arm?

Hi. 2 weeks ago I developed a skin rash. I went to another state for the weekend to see my adult son graduate. When I returned, I had a rash on the back of my left upper arm within 24 hours. I noticed a similar rash on the other side shortly after. It has spread and altered appearance as it spread. It itches, but not unbearably. It feels better when I am in bed at night. I finally saw a nurse practitioner who said it is either contact dermatitis or scabies. If I haven t been sexually active in years, live alone with not kids or pets, and no one I know has a rash, how could it be scabies?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy skin rash on back of left upper arm . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction , side effect , result of sensitivity to sunlight , eczema , seborrheic dermatitis , chicken pox , impetigo or psoriasis . Consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory or antibiotics .For now wash your hand with cold water and apply petroleum jelly on it , avoid any cosmetic product , prevent it from sun exposure or take anti histamine like benadryl . Also keep youeself hydrated .
