What Causes Development Of White Patch Behind The Ear?
Doctor, my 4 yr old daughter has developed a white patch behind her right ear and it is developing further. She had such spots on different parts of the body since birth. On diagnosis the dermatologist had suggested us not to indulge in any treatment and it should get fine by age. Most of them have cleared. But this new patch is developing. What should we do???
White patches in your child could be due to Pityriasis alba. It is a skin disorder that mostly affects children and young adults and can be associated with eczema-skin inflammatory condition. These patches will reduce in 3 to 4 weeks without any treatments. Moisturiser and sunscreen can be applied to prevent dryness. Rarely mild steroids like hydrocortisone may be required.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
