What Causes Diarrhea, Abdominal Pain And Jelly Like Discharge During Bowel Movement?

I had really loose stool and adominal pain a few days ago. My stool has been better and I have not had any pain but I did notice a clear jelly like discharge when I wipes after a BM and I think it was round the stool but it was hard to tell with the water surrounding it. I have not had any fever, nausea, vomiting, blood in stool, or pain. The only pain I did have was when I had to use the bathroom and it would go away soon after I finished using the bathroom. I have not had the pain in about 3 days. What could be the cause for the clear jelly discharge and should I be worried thank you.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Jelly like discharge is probably due to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). I suggest you to get routine stool examination, consult a gastroenterologist and fecal calprotectin.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
