What Causes Diarrhea After Quitting Alcohol?

Hi, Just today I have been experiencing a lot of gassy sensations & rumbling (afraid to pass gas without having a toilet near by), so when I finally sat down on the toilet, I thought it was diarrhea but instead was a large amount of clear-yellow mucus, didn t smell foul in any way. It appeared to be a yellowish-clear discharge when on the toilet paper, but appeared to be an orange color in the toilet water. I am 39 year old female, 220 pounds, I quit drinking alcohol & quit smoking 5 months ago and have lost 34 pounds since then. I replaced alcohol & soda with water. I drink approximately 64 ounces of water per day and I regularly get exercise, either by going to my local gym or doing it here at home. I have never been diagnosed with any colon issues. I just got health insurance coverage shortly before I stopped my bad habits. I m taking Omeprazole, Chantix, Wellbutrin, Ropinirole, and they just recently took me off of Metoprolol (4 days ago) for palpitations (the palpitations became frequent when I quit drinking & smoking, then they subsided after a month or so). I m very concerned, as I m a single Mom with twin toddlers who both have special needs. I need some advice. Thank you!

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. As the body adjusts to sobriety, alcohol withdrawal produces fatigue, diarrhea, insomnia and night sweats. These symptoms usually occur following a brief period of heavy drinking. Binge drinking, defined as consuming four to five drinks in less than two hours, can produce a hangover with ease.

Otherwise you are doing well and in the right direction. You can include tender coconut water and lemon juices in your daily diet for better detoxification.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck. Take care.
