What Causes Diarrhea After Taking Mucinex D And AMOX CLAV?

I recently took a course of antibiotics for an ear infection. One of the side effects for this antibiotic was diarrhea. The antibiotic, Amox/Clav 875mg-125mg tab, was prescribed along with Mucinex D to treat the ear infection. I began to have diarrhea the second day after starting the meds. I had to take Immodium Multisymptom tablets to control it since I had to go to work each day. I only took the Immodium when it was absolutely necessary. My bottom is raw and burning from the frequent diarrhea and constant wiping. What can I do to heal the skin?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from antibiotic induced diarrhea as Amoxi-Clav is an antibiotic and at times intake of antibiotics can cause severe diarrhea as well as digestive disturbances..
This happens because the antibiotics disrupts the good bacteria present in intestines along with harmful bacteria and it leads to disturbances in the complex functioning of intestines like Digestion and Absorption and it leads to diarrhea..
It is however temporary and resolves as the antibiotic intake is stopped..
You can consult your treating physician if the symptoms are severe..
As of now, till you are on medication you should take empty stomach Pantoprazole or Omeprazole..
Take Loperamide to control loose motions..
Drink plenty of oral rehydration solution..
Take more of yoghurt, rice, banana and cereals in diet..
For healing the skin you can apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine..
Do sitz bath that is sitting in a tub of warm water..
Do cool compresses in the area..
If the condition worsen consult your treating physician so that he can alter the dose of the antibiotic..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
