What Causes Diarrhea After Taking Vitamin D3 Supplements?

My father has been taking a Vitamin D3 liquid soft gel everyday, for quite some time. He is 89 and in reasonable good health. Recently he has been experiencing some diarrhea without any other health symptons.
He is wondering if the Vitamin D3 could in anyway be causing it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi i do care for your concern.
Vitamin D3 helps in absorption of calcium from diet.
in your case daily supplementation of vitamin D3 is not necessary.
increased calcium level may cause motility changes in the intestine and may cause diarrohea.
I would advise to stop taking the supplement and consult your physician and get checked for calcium levels, before continuing the drug.
Hope i have answered your question, If you have more doubts feel free to ask.
Thank you.
