General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The most common reason for acute Diarrhea is an infection involving the gastrointestinal tract.

Because the intestines are inflamed, they cannot absorb the food and Diarrhea will occur with meals. In general, till it resolves, only liquids are advised (except for using yogurt for probiotics).

Treatment includes:

(1) Hold off all solid food till 4 hours pass with no symptoms. When this time passes then a small amount of dry foods can be used such as biscuits, toast, and plain rice.
(2) Replace fluids to avoid dehydration.
(3) Use Probiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
