What Causes Diarrhea Along With Reddish Brown Phlegm After Coughing Up?

Hello,I just had a bad sickness which i think was flu (doctor wasnt sure and gave me a scrip for antibiotics in case there was still green or brown mucus). The fever lasted 3 days (i am just over the fever today) but now i have diarrhea and coughing or sneezing *hurts*. During the time i had the fever i had some coughing fits so i would cough really hard to get up something. Usually it would be barely noticeable phlegm and i would swallow it but yesterday i looked and i definitely saw some red/brown mixed in. I don t get the fits of coughing now but every now and then I can hear something not right in my breathing. Coughing still hurts, like 1000 small knives being driven into my upper back and shoulders. What should I do?

Hi,

It seems you have severe respiratory infection with difficulty &pain while breathing. The loose options accompanying can be due to initial viral infection (secondarily infected by bacteria) OR side effect of antibiotics. I would suggest you to go to ER, get examined, investigated (X-ray chest, CBC) take a chest physicians advise and start with specific treatment. Until that you start with light diet, plenty of water with ORS, to avoid dehydration / drink warm water, warm water gargles, use tab. derriphyllin after food, to get some relief in breathing and wheezing.
