What Causes Diarrhea Along With Stomach Ache And Headache?

I have had watery stools for about 3 weeks. A few days ago the stomach pains & headache started. These have since subsided. Doctor ordered bloodwork & stool sample. Everything was normal except the stool sample - lots of white blood cells so they want to test for C. Difficile. Doctor & online information indicates it is highly contagious. How is it spread? I have no idea how I might have contracted it.
