Hi, I am 18 weeks pregnant. last month I was treated for UTI with amoxillin for 5 days, and get culture done after that which showed no growth. But for last a few days, i got UTI again with diarrhea, along with some Ca Oxalate. after urine routine report, my doctor said that there was some growth of bacteria which caused diarrhea as well. i got treated with salines and antibiotics for one day. Now my doctor prescribed me taxim 200mg, celin, Vibact, and econorm for 5 days. How much safe to have antibiotics in pregnancy? How should i prevent this to happen for next time?
Hi, thank you for your query at healthcare magic. Pregnancy is a time during which the body is slightly immunocomprpmised and as a result women become prone to infections like urinary tract infections commonly. Since you have diarrhoea, you seem to have contracted a gastroenteritis and the bacteria from the stool may have travelled into the urinary tract causing your infection. Since, treating the infection is very important both for mother and baby, doctors see if benefits of prescribing antibiotics and other medication outweigh the risks, and act accordingly. Moreover, antibiotics which are considered safe are given like in your case. Hence, taking the antibiotics is a good decision because harboring an infection is more harmful for both mother and foetus. Since you seem to have chronic urinary tract infection, which is again common in pregnancy, you should drink plenty of water and void urine frequently. Also do not hold back the urge to urinate. Hope this helps. Thank you for visiting healthcare magic
