What Causes Diarrhea And Belching Despite Taking Kaopectate And Pepto?

I have had intermittent liquid stool with bilious burps, weak and flushed, and no vomiting.I had it for about eight hours nearly a week ago, then gone, then back two days later, then gone, now back. I am treating it with Kaopectate, Pepto, and at this point, don t know what to do. Is it bacterial, virile, contagious, and do I need immediate care? It is tough to stay hydrated when it happens, but mostly I am just baffled at having bouts days apart! That makes me think it s bacterial and builds up again. What do you think it is and what should I do? I live in Orange County, CA, and have not traveled anywhere, but I am a high school teacher in a low socioeconomic area.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of diarrhea and belching despite taking Kaopectate and Pepto which seems to be due to disturbance of electrolytic balance of body. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroesophageal reflux disease, food intolerance , food allergy, bacterial or viral infection , parasitic infection or inflammatory bowel disease. Need not to worry. You should not lay down immediately after having food. You should walk and exercise daily. You should eat light and non spicy , eat fresh fruits and vegetables and eat fruits like banana. Take oral rehydrating solution as well. You should take small quantity of food and avoid large intake at a single time. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like ornidazole , albendazole , omeprazole along with loperamide.
