What Causes Diarrhea And Cramping During A Pregnancy?

Hi, I ve been constipated for the past couple of weeks now but yesterday I had the runs and today I woke up at 10 am with cramps and the runs. Then had another case of the runs at 12 pm. I ve had maybe 3 or 4 more trips to the bathroom since then of just water, not even loose stool and it s 6 pm. I m still a little crampy too. I m 39.6 weeks pregnant and wondering if this could be my body cleansing itself as a sign of early labor. What do you think?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Such frequent and watery diarrhea could indicate an infection (probably acute gastroenteritis) and not the body trying to cleanse itself. If you remember what you ate 2-6 hours prior to the first episode of the runs, that could most probably have been the cause for the infection. I would advise drinking plenty of water and if possible even a oral rehydration solution until you can schedule an appointment with your doctor for further management.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
