What Causes Diarrhea And Pain In The Lower Abdomen?

I have been having loose stools for 7-10 days. They are loose almost mucus in color with a small tinge of red. Last couple days have almost been normal, but then this evening came back. Having small amount of pain in my lower abdomen. Should I be seen right away?

Bloody mucous dirrhea indicates that an invasive organism is causing your symptoms.It could be enteritis caused by digestive bacterial or parasitic infection.I will suggest you see the Doctor for a stool exam and culture as a course of antibiotics may be needed.In the meantime, you may try the following:
-Take oral rehydration salt to replenish fluid and electrolyte losses
-Zinc tablets to help in intestinal repair
-If diarrhea too frequent, you may add an anti-diarrhea like imodium
The rest of the treatment will depend on stool exam/culture findings.
Just see the Doctor.
