What Causes Diarrhea And Stomach Cramps After Having Levonelle?

Hi. I had to take levonelle two weeks ago after the condom came off. I took it approx 33 hours after intercourse. I had light bleeding for 5 days the following week which is when my period was due. About 4/5 days after taking the pill I started with diarrhea and stomach/back cramps. This has continued and won t stop. Sometimes i havent even mafe it to the bathroom in time. It has been 2 weeks now. Is it related to the pill/could I be pregnant? Regards.

Hi,

Levonelle is an emergency contraceptive. It can produce nausea, vomiting due to gastric irritation after intake. There can be abdominal cramp in lower abdomen till few days. But it is not known to cause diarrhea. It is already two weeks, and diarrhea is not controlled yet. You should concerned for signs of dehydration. Please consult your family physician and get fluid replacement as per need. Stool examination for finding causative organism followed by specific medications would help.
