What Causes Diarrhea And Vomiting Post Colonoscopy And Polyp Removal?

I had a Whipple surgery in 08 for pancreatic endocrine tumors. 2 years later I had full blown cancerous pal ups removed from my colon. I had no bleeding, no pain whatsoever. 3 days ago I had a colonoscopy and they said I was full of palups and they removed them. I immediately filled the toilet with blood and tissue. The nurse said it s normal. Past blood and tissue for 2 days. ..stopped this morning. Have raging diarrhea and vomiting everytime I eat or drink. Why did I not have any of these side-effects before?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of Whipple surgery for nedocrine tumor of pancreas. Cancerous polypi in colon removed but now followed by blessing, diarrhea and vomiting.
With the history that you have provided this seems to be a complications of resection of colon polypi.
Cancerous polypi are deep hence removal may cause perforation of colon, bleeding, infection of peritoneal cavity and so on.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
This is an emergency hence rush to the hospital or Er.
Do not take anything orally at al.
Get admitted for intravenous fluids and antibiotics.
Investigations of X-ray of abdomen in standing positon, CT scan and tests of blood can give hte diagnosis.
The treatment can be conservative or may need an emergency surgery to close the perforations or may need a colectomy depending upon the cause found and to take a curative step too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
