What Causes Diarrhea In An Infant After Taking Meftal-P?

Hello Doctor, My son is 5 months old. At afternoon around 3 pm, he had fever for which Babygesic( Medicine) drops of 0.5 ml was given. The fever reduced for a while and then shoot upto 102F. So we consulted a doctor near our area over phone. She suggested to give MEFTAL-P of 3ml to baby who is around 8 Kg. But he is having lose motion 5- times a day. Shall I proceed with the prescribed medicine. Please advice. Best Regards Mrs. Nayak

Hi,

Meftal-P is Mefenemic acid Paracetamol combination and it does not cause diarrhea as a side effect. The diarrhea may be due to something else and probably be due to gastroenteritis. Generally it will settle by itself. If persists for long you can consult a pediatrician and get evaluated.
