What Causes Diarrhea While On Beta Blockers And Aspirin In A Heart Patient?

My son has recently had a cardiac arrest but was resuscitated. He has had a stent fitted and a few days later they found, during a scan a mural thrombus. He is now on 19 different types of medication including beta blockers, warferin, aspirin, ace inhibits and is taking injections in his stomach depending on his inr. He has developed acute diarrhea and cannot keep anything in his stomach. Do you think the pills are causing the diarrhea and, if so, what should he do. Stop the pills?. YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The prescribed medications are unlikely to be the cause for acute diarrhea. Acute diarrhea could be due to gut infection caused by virus, bacteria, or protozoa.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
